Even though it is necessary for us to engage in our own meditation, and progress in our own practice, working solely for ourselves is not acceptable. We definitely need to be willing to share the Dharma with others and benefit them in ways that will help them alleviate their mental suffering. By doing this we will really be doing the best thing we can. People will not need to commit suicide, they will be able to live lives of happiness and meaning, and this is the essential contribution that we as Buddhists can make in the 21st century.
