If we do not have the aspiration to work for the liberation of all beings, but only harbour the aspiration to achieve our own liberation, this aspiration is at the level of the Hinayana tradition. If we are genuinely able to arouse the aspiration to work for the liberation of all beings in addition to ourselves, then this is the aspiration of the Mahayana.
