Because it is so difficult to generate this aspiration to work for the liberation of others in addition to our own, it is necessary again and again to do a great deal of reflection and contemplation on the suffering of others, why we should work for their benefit, and so on. By engaging in these contemplations, we will finally generate the aspiration from the depths of our hearts that we will definitely strive and undertake every effort for the benefit of others so that they attain liberation as well. When this state of mind has been aroused, we will have generated bodhicitta.
